I work primarily with wool, using the needle felting technique to create soft sculptures in both sculptural and relief forms.
Through the slow and repetitive movement of the hand, the wool gradually accumulates into forms that hold the subtle sensations of moving and dwelling, of tension and rest.
My recent series, Fluffy Asteroid, begins from the idea of a nomadic way of life. The forms express a balance between the unease and freedom that come with not settling, and the possibility of warmth that quietly enters such a state. Tangled and dense wool clusters appear to drift without destination, yet seem softly anchored at the same time—reflecting the emotional topographies that form within the orbits of transient life.
Wool has long belonged to the realm of everyday labor and care. Through its materiality and the rhythm of the hand, I aim to create sculptural spaces where feelings can rest. My practice resonates with slow aesthetics, resisting the fast pace and hyper-efficiency of contemporary life. It seeks instead to restore a sense of time that is gentle, layered, and quietly unfolding.
I also approach my work through the lens of affective feminism. Rather than focusing on trauma or oppression, I explore care, intimacy, and tactile connection as forms of subtle resistance. Repetition, pressure, and warmth become sculptural languages through which emotional architectures are built. In this way, softness itself becomes a political and poetic gesture.
Fluffy Asteroid becomes a suspended emotional landscape—an invitation to pause within a drifting life. Through this work, I hope viewers will be able to momentarily reflect inward, guided not by grand narratives, but by small, intimate textures of emotion.I wish for my sculptures to become quiet companions—evoking wordless conversations and shared silences, offering a space where personal memory and collective feeling might gently meet.

최근 작업인 「Fluffy Asteroid」 시리즈는 유목적인 삶에서 출발합니다. 정착하지 않은 삶이 주는 불안과 자유, 그리고 그 안에서도 스며드는 포근한 감정들을 형상화합니다. 얽히고 뭉친 양모 덩어리들은 어딘가로 떠밀려 가는 듯하지만 동시에 조용히 고정되어 있는 듯한 이중적인 긴장 속에 놓여 있습니다. 이러한 형태들은 삶의 궤도 위에서 만들어진 감정의 지형이기도 합니다.
양모는 오래도록 일상과 돌봄의 영역에 머물러 있던 재료입니다. 저는 이 물성과 손의 리듬을 통해 감정이 머물 수 있는 조형적 장소를 만들고자 합니다. 이러한 작업 방식은 슬로우 미학(slow aesthetics)의 맥락 속에서 해석될 수 있습니다. 빠른 소비와 효율을 요구하는 현대의 속도감에 저항하며,
천천히 쌓이고 변화하는 시간의 감각을 회복하는 일입니다.
또한 저는 작업을 통해 감각 중심의 페미니즘(affective feminism)을 탐색하고자 합니다.
슬픔이나 억압의 재현이 아닌, 감정과 돌봄, 촉각적 연결이 만들어내는 조용한 회복의 가능성에 주목합니다. 반복되는 바느질, 손의 압력, 온도의 층위는 조형적인 언어이자 감정의 구조물이 됩니다. 저의 작업은 부드러움 그 자체가 하나의 저항이 될 수 있다는 믿음에서 출발합니다.
「Fluffy Asteroid」는 무중력 상태를 떠도는 감정의 단위이자, 유동적인 삶 속에서도 잠시 머무를 수 있는 감각의 풍경입니다. 떠돌며 흩어지는 일상 속에서도, 우리는 여전히 부드럽게 연결될 수 있다는 가능성을 조형을 통해 제안합니다.저는 이 작업들을 통해 관람객이 자신의 내면을 조용히 들여다보는 시간을 마주하길 바랍니다. 거대한 서사보다는 소소한 감정의 결을 따라가며, 작품 앞에서 함께 머무르고 사유하고, 말 없는 대화를 나누는 순간이 일어나기를 희망합니다.
그렇게 해서 이 조형물들이, 우리 각자의 기억과 감정에 조용히 접속하는 매개가 되길 기대합니다.
